Cannabis is now widely available in most states, despite federal interdictions. Customers have the choice of various commercial products, including ingestables, topical oils, as well as those smoked. Components can be distilled to separate out the psychoactive constituent, THC (delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol) from the nonhallucinogenic forms, cannabinol (CBN), cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabigerol (CBG). These agents act as agonists at the endocannabinoid receptors.
A recent cross-sectional study investigated the sleep and memory effects of chronic cannabis use in individuals. In rodent studies, researchers tested the cannabis constituents, CBN, CBD and CBG effects on both pain and sleep, with intriguing results.
